Founder and main force behind Hocus Bogus, Dennis Muñoz
Espadiña, has been experimenting with animation and experimental filmmaking since 2023. By combining a wide array of
techniques like printing, drawing and collage making with RISO;Xerox and analog
16mm film, Muñoz Espadiña creates wondrous tactile images.
In 2023 he followed an online course by acclaimed graphic designer and paper engineer Kelli Anderson to learn about RISO animation. Around the same time he participated in a one day live glass film 16mm workshop at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. In the Summer of 2023 he organised and curated a one month RISO animation workshop and screening at Roodkapje Rotterdam titled “Riso,paper,scissors”. His first fully RISO/XEROX animated shortfilm “Like Fire Concealed In Ashes” was finished at the end of 2025.
In 2026 he’s starting the development and realisation of his second short film. He’s supported by Atelier Graphoui (Bruxelles,BE), an animation atelier that offers production help and supports hybrid animation projects. in Brussels (BE). Muñoz is currently also a participant of the 6th Baltic Analog Lab Film School– an international five-month course in experimental analog filmmaking. The school is open for both international and national participants, providing regular online meetings with filmmakers and researchers from all around the world, teaching in-person as well as online workshops, and providing assistance in analog film production.
